2016-sept-17It was a glorious week Indeed! The church held a spiritual revival from September 13-17, 2016 to celebrate the Inauguration of the New Church Building. We were blessed with the presence of H.G. Bishop Karas to celebrate the Feast of St. Verena and lead a GTA Clergy meeting. Also, Fr. Anthony Messeh held two spiritual meetings and inspired many youth and young adults to live the life of the martyrs and to understand God’s call to lead a life of righteousness. On September 16th, many of our fathers the bishops celebrated Vespers Raising of Incense where the church officially welcomed the relics the St. Maurice & St. Verena. On Saturday, September 17th, our beloved Fathers H.E. Metropolitan Tadros, H.G. Bishop Morcos, H.G. Bishop Botros, H.G. Bishop Beemen, H.G. Bishop Youannis, H.G. Bishop David, H.G. Bishop Youssef of Bolivia and H.G. Bishop Mina celebrated the Divine Liturgy and ordained deacons to the ranks of Reader and Singer. Following the Liturgy, Our Fathers the bishops along with Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Hon. Michael Chan, MPP, City of Markham Council, our consultants, clergy and many guests and members celebrated the official opening ceremony. The celebration started with the cutting of the Ribbon and a beautiful message from H.H. Pope Tawadros II to the congregation of SMSV. Those in attendance also watched a slide show remembering the different stages of building the church followed by a presentation from the Praise Team. The Mayor and the MPP shared a few lovely words of encouragement and support expressing their gratitude to the congregation who have built this lovely church. Fr. Daniel Hanna also shared a few words reflecting on his service in the Church. H.G. Bishop David spoke about his memories in establishing this parish, the support of the late H.H. Pope Shenouda III, and the vision of the church. His grace also thanked his parents who have raised their children in the fear and love of God. Fr. Pishoy mentioned a few words of gratitude to our church hierarchy, the dignitaries, everyone who shared in building the church, and finally to his wife, Sandra. Finally, H.E. Metropolitan Tadros closed the ceremony with wonderful words of encouragement and support to the new church along with its diverse congregation. Everyone shared in a fellowship lunch to conclude the afternoon. May our Lord bless and reward every one who has laboured to build this church and may our vision always remain on the salvation and building of souls.
