2015-March-19The church welcomes back her youth on March 19, 2015, grades 7 to 12, who returned from a 5-day March break trip in Washington DC. The theme of the retreat was “Meeting Jesus,” based on our Lenten Small Group series. Every morning started with small group sessions lead by our councillors, designed to engage the youth in discussions centered on different aspects of Christ’ character. Sessions included “The Real Jesus”, “Jesus the Storytelling Teacher” and “Jesus the Challenging Saviour”. Every day following small groups, the group would set off to the city for sightseeing, shopping, and fellowship outdoors in the beautiful spring weather. Some of the sights the youth got to see in the DC area included: Capitol Hill, the White House, the US Supreme Court, the Washington Monument, Old Town Alexandria, the Air and Space Museum, as well as the Museum of Natural History (where Night at the Museum was filmed!). Of course no trip would be complete without food, so the schedule included stops at DC’s famous eateries such as Ben’s Chili Bowl, Shake Shack, Sticky Fingers, Chipotle, On the Border and Trader Joe’s, among others. For the evening sessions, Fr. Daniel spoke on “Staying Connected with the Tower” and “Beware of Spiritual Junk Food” while Fr. Anthony Messeh captivated everyone with “Meeting Jesus in the Liturgy.” We thank God for blessing us with a wonderful time in Washington DC, for the amazing weather and for the lasting memories made. May the Lord reward all those who labored towards the success of this trip.
