The following is an excerpt from the press release issued by the Coptic Orthodox Archdiocese in Cedar Grove, NJ:

“Our community is devastated by the brutal execution of twenty-one Coptic Christians on Libya’s shore at the hands of groups linked to the so-called ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).  Twenty-one men – who had gone to Libya in efforts to provide financially for their families – knelt in prayer as they were brutally murdered.  These victims have left behind wives, parents, children, friends, co-workers, and neighbours.  All of Egypt is dismayed by these barbaric acts, as expressed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in his visit to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II in offering his condolences,” said Bishop Karas.

At the end we also follow the model of our Lord Jesus Christ who taught us to pray for our perpetrators, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do,” as He did during His crucifixion.

In honour of our Coptic Martyrs of Libya, we will dedicate the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, February 22nd for the repose of their souls. Also, the Liturgy will be followed by a funeral service and prayer meeting for our martyrs.
