Community Service Ministry: Mission Statement:
To establish, implement and promote an outreach program serving the less fortunate in our community by utilizing the full range of our Congregation Skills & Personal Drive
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' (Matthew 25: 34-36)
Objectives: To provide a broad range of “Services” which accommodates members’ capabilities and availability
To adjust and maintain an evergreen, meaningful program which reflects the congregation growth, demographics & needs
To enable each and every member to pursue a satisfying, enriching experience
‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' (Matthew 25:40)
Members’ Pre-Requisite: To invest with full heart and total mind
To become motivated and to get involved
‘Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven’ (Matthew 5:16)
1. - Brookside Retirement Residence visits
To visit seniors living in the retirement home, to provide companionship and participate in senior’s activities. For more info please contact Debbie White and Pierre Girgis brookside@smsv.ca
2. Community Meals & Children Breakfast Club Yonge Street Mission, St. John The Compassionate etc.
To prepare and serve community dinners, including set-up and cleaning the hall after dinner. To participate in fellowship and youth sport/games after dinner. For more info please contact Renee Samuel and Maurice Cyril Chen communitymeals@smsv.ca
3. Downtown Sandwich Run
To serve individuals in the streets of downtown Toronto. To hand- out sandwiches, water, juice and clothing as needed. Volunteers donate sandwiches and snacks. For more information please contact Fran Brown sandwichrun@smsv.ca
4. Good Shepherd’s Trays Preparation

5. Habitat For Humanity
To participate in building homes for low-income families, putting together dry walls, paint or finish floors under the supervision of a construction crew. For more info please contact Jacky Habib and Maurice Cyril Chen habitat@smsv.ca
6. Social Committee
The Social Committee function is to organize major SMSV Church events, retreats, banquets and special celebrations. For more info please contact Sue Armanios and Marlenne Doss activities@smsv.ca
7. Food Drives 2 –3 weeks prior to Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas
Organize food drives for the benefits of different community services organizations. For more info please contact Renee Samuel community_service@smsv.ca
Christmas Services:
8. Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities “Holidays Baskets” for Families and Seniors
Assemble family baskets full of Christmas goods supplied from the food bank or donate a basket of goods for an isolated senior member of the community. Contact Dora Nasr and Renee Samuel community_service@smsv.ca
9. Christmas Dinner and ChristmasMarket
To serve the Christmas Holiday meal and distribute token gifts or service in the warehouse delivering gifts. For more info please contact Renee Samuel and Maurice Cyril Chen communitymeals@smsv.ca
10. Operation Christmas Child
Shoeboxes are provided for volunteers to fill them with small non-perishable food/gifts. These boxes are shipped all over the world to needy children to help them celebrate Christmas. For more info please contact Renee Samuel community_service@smsv.ca
11. Adopt a Family at St John the Compassionate
Families, parents & children make wish lists for Christmas; volunteers will adopt a family and provide the items on their wish list. For more info please contact Renee Samuel and Dora Nasr community_service@smsv.ca
