Vision Statement:

1. How will you contribute to the mission and vision of SMSV by your service on the Church Board?

I firmly believe in the mission of SMSV-a ministry of love, integration and outreach. I have been a member of this incredibly unique church since its first year and have enjoyed seeing it grow.  I am excited about belonging to a community that strives to resemble heaven by catering to people of all nations.  As a church board member, I would hope to continue advancing this mission so that existing cultural barriers are no longer present. I would want to represent the issues that women face as well as marginalized people such as the poor and persons with a disability. I would hope to be a voice for these people when decisions are made so that the entire SMSV body is represented.

2. What new ideas/suggestions would you like to introduce to the Church Board?

I am so proud of belonging to a church that values serving its community.  We have served several downtown ministries (i.e. Good Shepherd and St. John the Compassionate) for years now and I hope we will continue our ministry to them.  At the same time, I hope that we can serve the needy in our new Markham home. This may include partnering with the Markham Food Bank or other organizations that serve the needy in our own backyard.

Secondly, the transportation needs of our members would be a priority. Because SMSV is in Markham, it is less accessible to parishioners who used to attend when the church was south of Steeles, some of whom were core members.  Wheel Trans does not service SMSV and some people are forced to pay an extra fare to come to church.  I would hope we could work with the city of Markham or within our own ministry to correct some of these challenges so SMSV can be accessible to all.
