Vision Statement:

1. How will you contribute to the mission and vision of SMSV by your service on the Church Board?

I love our mission statement at SMSV “A ministry of love, integration and outreach.”

I have been going to Church all of my life. My parents were one of the first families to immigrate from Cairo to Toronto. The Coptic Church in its initial stages back then moved from location to location until we finally had our own Church. It was an exciting period to grow up with the Church.

This excitement has now exponentially grown since SMSV started. A small close-knit community with a shared faith and a feeling of oneness has expanded amongst many different ethnic backgrounds. Now as a parent, I pray and am thankful that my children have a home away from home, a Church that allows them to pray, play, serve and learn about Christianity. The small groups sessions in our homes and in Sunday school have had a wonderful impact on our families.

As a potential Church Board member, I hope to continue to serve and contribute so that my children’s children and hopefully for many future generations to come, that the spirit and foundation we have at SMSV will be able to be nurtured through the grace of God.

2. What new ideas/suggestions would you like to introduce to the Church Board?

Plan regular Board meetings throughout the year (i.e. every 4 to 6 weeks on a Wednesday night at 7:30 pm); Send out an agenda a week or two prior and add any “other matters.” If there are no important issues to discuss, we would still get together and pray for our Church and its ministry.

Re-start the Ministry “Ministry Fair” and schedule it twice a year. The first one would be in January after the Coptic Christmas and a second one would take place in September, after the Coptic New Year. Feature all of the different ministries and try to engage the congregation to join and utilize their talents in the various ministries.

Have a team building or bonding session(s) for the Board throughout the year. I don’t know if this practice has previously been put in place. This could also be done in lieu of a regular meeting.
